Baytown Sculpture Trail
The Baytown Sculpture Trail continues for 2023 with a new juried exhibit of original outdoor sculptures displayed year-round in the Arts, Culture, and Entertainment (ACE) District in historic Downtown Baytown, Texas. The ACE District is a 501(c)3 organization purposed with promoting both cultural and economic expansion within the City of Baytown. Baytown is a suburb of Houston and the 5th largest city in Harris County with a population of around 82,000. Harris County itself is the 3rd largest county in the United States.
Up to thirty sculptures will be chosen for this exhibit. Artists may enter up to 5 pieces. The fee for the first two submissions is $25 each. Artists choosing to submit more than two entries will receive a 25% discount each for entries three through five. The call is open to professional and amateur sculptors of all backgrounds. Call parameters are listed on the "Prospectus" page. The sculptures chosen to participate in the exhibit are owned by the artist and loaned to the exhibit for one year. All artists must register with ArtCall.org before submitting their work if they have not previously done so. Registration and logon links are located at the top right corner of this page.
The Sculpture Trail Jury will critique entries on artistic merit, creativity, durability, and public safety in an outdoor setting. All artists will be notified of the jurors’ decisions no later than November 21, 2022.
Each sculptor selected for this 12-month exhibition will receive a $1,500 honorarium per sculpture chosen. Sales of any work in the exhibition will be subject to a 30% commission so price your artwork accordingly. Additionally, exhibition sponsors will have the option of leasing the sculpture for display at their business location for an additional year. The 30% commission applies to the lease as well.
There are two awards: Best of Show and People’s Choice. The Best of Show award of $1000 will be awarded by October 1, 2023. The People’s Choice selection will be awarded at the end of the exhibition period in March 2024. The City of Baytown will purchase the People’s Choice Award winner at a sales price not to exceed $20,000.
Each exhibition sculptor will receive 1 night free at a popular Baytown hotel for the reception. Should they choose, additional nights may be purchased at a discount. They will receive a classy Sculpture Trail T-shirt as well.
