Dabbing, or the dab, is a gesture in which a person drops their head into the bent crook of a slanted, upwardly angled arm, while raising the opposite arm out straight in a parallel direction. Since 2015, dabbing has been used as a gesture of triumph or playfulness, becoming a youthful fad and Internet meme. I began creating this sculpture over a year and a half ago. However, I stopped for several months after having COVID and my motivation to start back on the sculpture wasn't revived until I learned about this call for entry for the Baytown Sculpture Trail. Using several hundred individual pieces of scrap metal, I have created what I believe to be a whimsical representation of the dabbing cultural trend.
